John Walker Lounge, Mt Smart Stadium

In 2003, the Auckland Regional Council purchased a building situated in the Viaduct Basin with the intention of relocating it to Mt Smart Stadium.  The building was originally to be used as a corporate facility on the No.1 ground. 

A contractor was engaged to dismantle, relocate and re-erect the building to its original state.  For a number of reasons, the contract was never completed and the structure sat open to the elements for more than two years. 

Octa Associates were then brought on board in December 2005 to create a viable project from a tentative business case, and to kick start the project. 

A material refurbishment programme was undertaken to identify what materials could be re-used and what would have to be purchased new.  From that, a cost estimate was provided to Council and the project was able to progress.
