Elephant Hill Estate & Winery

Hawkes Bay

ONGOING

This project consists of three main structures: Viticulture Building, Winery and Residence as well as related site development and landscaping works.

A distinguishing feature of the House, Winery and Viticulture Buildings is that they are clad in patinated copper.  The House is designed around a central courtyard with a swimming pool.  There are two guest suites in addition to the main house that includes Housekeeper accommodation.  The Winery (some 2,800m2) consists of Red and White Wine Processing, Barrel Room, Basement Cellar (626m2), Office, Laboratory, Administration, Restaurant and Wine Tasting Areas.  Major fixed plant has been specified for processing 340 tonnes of grapes, with the resource consent allowing expansion to 800 tonnes of grapes produced on the vineyard.  The Viticulture Equipment Building of some 520m2 includes worker amenities.

The 32ha Vineyard itself was planted some two years ahead of architect John Blair’s concept plans being signed off and Octa’s appointment confirmed.  This provided the added complication of co-ordinating significant building works in an operational vineyard.  Including the need for partial occupation of the Wine Processing Area in December 2007, ahead of the Contract Completion Date of March 2008.

Octa’s role included detailed input to managing the design phase along with compliance, programming, monitoring and reporting of the construction phase.

Total project value is in excess of $20 million.
