This new 10,150m2 building near Christchurch International Airport provides a processing hall with a 40m clear span for NZ Post’s new mail sorting equipment together with offices and secure staff parking as most work is carried out during the night.
The building is one of three built by NZ Post as part of their Future Post Programme (the others are in Auckland and Hamilton) and part of our brief as project manager was to achieve similar designs for each so as to strengthen corporate identity.
Numerous “green building” features were incorporated in the design as part of NZ Post’s commitment to ESD (Environmentally Sustainable Design) including maximising natural light to the processing hall, low energy light fittings, rainwater harvesting for “grey water”, recyclable carpet, sustainably sourced timber, rain gardens & drainage swales wherever possible and bike stands for staff.
