Christchurch Hospital Site Redevelopment

Christchurch

This $130 million project, completed in 1999, represented the third stage in the redevelopment of the Christchurch Hospital Site. The Stage III project as approved in the business case consisted of: Oncology Building, Pathology Building and Parkside Building.

All three buildings were substantial, and provided tertiary level hospital services.
The project was undertaken within and around a fully operational site.  Demolition, construction, commissioning and occupation was staged to enable the hospital to remain fully functional throughout the entire project and at no stage did any functions of the hospital need to close down.

Octa were engaged in 1981 to review the justification and feasibility studies for the proposed redevelopment of Christchurch Hospital.  Octa input resulted in a reduced overall cost without a reduction to level of services.

“Octa’s ability to organise and implement major projects within fully operational hospitals was tested and proven in this project.”
